Mad about Madge!

Madge has hit the indie music scene with a powerful fury. She’s definitely a force to be reckoned with and an artist we are bound to see making waves and emerge as a breakthrough in 2018.

Interview by Jenna Darling

M

adge, a singer and producer based in LA, is definitely leveling up. Ranking over 75 million plays and 37,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, she’s a one to watch. As an artist, she produces her own music and music videos, total definition of a DIY producer and a BO$$ GIRL. Her pop sound is mixed with lo-fi and biting production that gives it an extra edge over a lot of her contemporaries. Her recent song “Alice” has been garnering a lot of Spotify love recently, We managed to catch up with Madge to talk music, inspirations, and her plans for the future. Her new EP comes out this fall, and we’re counting down the days until we get a listen.

Until then, check our interview with the budding creative below!

♥ What made you want to pursue a career in music?
I grew up studying classical piano and always thought I’d end up a pianist. I’m not sure how it evolved into pop music production but here we are. It’s just something I feel called to do, especially considering how comparatively few female producers and engineers there are.
♥ Who or what were your early and influences for your music today? ♥
The Spice Girls for sure!

♥ Alice is one of our favorite songs! What was the inspiration behind that song? ♥
It’s about my personal poltergeist. We have a pretty good relationship these days, though.
♥ Who’s the one artist that you dream of collaborating with and why? ♥
I would love to work with Dorian Electra or King Princess – rad, queer pop artists who aren’t afraid to push boundaries.
♥ What was the last song you just listened to? ♥
Oh no how embarrassing – it was totally one of mine. I was trying to figure out if I liked the mix or not lol… (I did! I did a great job!)
♥ Who is an artist you listen to that people wouldn’t expect you to? ♥
I listen to a lot of cheesy pop punk. Like TONS. Avril Lavigne, Green Day, Sum 41, etc.

♥ What are some key components to your creative process? ♥
. I’m all about a strong rhythm. I need to be able to move to a song while I’m making it.
♥ Do you have any hobbies that you partake in your downtime other than music? ♥
I’m learning to pole dance and I’ve become obsessed. It’s so hard and so sexy.
♥ Do you have any new music or projects in store soon? Could you indulge us in any information or small hints? ♥
I do! I have a very unexpected pop punk cover coming out next month.
♥ What can we expect from you for the rest of the year? ♥
I’m putting out a whole EP in the fall. It’s my debut and I can’t wait to share it. I’m also playing a bunch of shows over the next few months! Come through and see me! I love being able to meet fans in person!
