Feeling Lost? Follow This Trio Of Penguins On An Aquarium Adventure.

Right now, we’re figuring out how to somehow obtain skills, find comfort, and alleviate stress under new restrictions. Enter the penguins at Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium, who managed to seize adventure on an expedition through their empty establishment.

Like many restaurants, bars, theaters, and museums, the aquarium announced it will be closed until March 29 to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. However, what was humans’ temporary loss is the opening of a whole new world for a trio of Shedd’s penguins. The aquarium shared a video on Twitter of one of the penguins, named Wellington, exploring the Amazon exhibit on March 15.

The video, which has been watched more than 2.4 million times, was captioned, “Penguins in the Amazon?! Some of the penguins went on a field trip to meet other animals at Shedd. Wellington seemed most interested in the fishes in Amazon Rising! The black-barred silver dollars also seemed interested in their unusual visitor.”

Next, it was penguins Edward and Annie’s turn to explore the grounds. “The adventure continues!,” the next Twitter thread began. “This morning, Edward and Annie explored Shedd’s rotunda. They are a bonded pair of rockhopper penguins, which means they are together for nesting season. Springtime is nesting season for penguins at Shedd, and this year is no different!” Shedd went on to promise more animal updates for these trying times and teased the return of Wellington.

Watching these creatures live their best lives in a weird time is providing peace of mind to the rest of the world. In a statement to the Chicago Tribune, the aquarium said we should expect more coverage of the animals exploring mid-closure:

“Without guests in the building, caretakers are getting creative in how they provide enrichment to animals. Introducing new experiences, activities, foods and more to keep them active, encourage them to explore, problem-solve and express natural behaviors.”
