- Girl, what inspired you to write “ur a bitch“? Did someone tick you off?
lol. Yeah…. - Your TikTok videos are hilarious, but this new single has a different vibe. What was the idea behind bringing a sassier side to your music?
I’m just honest and write about how I feel. I was really angry and hurt when I wrote this song. I also thought it was kind of funny too… - We love the beat on “ur a bitch”. Can you tell us more about the sound and production process?
HXNS produced this song, he sent me a beat pack after I reached out to him on Instagram. I heard his song “1080p” with Elujay & knew I had to work with him. - Your musical background is so diverse, from R&B to Pop to Afrobeats. How did you bring these influences into “ur a bitch“?
I’ve always listened to many different kinds of music, so it definitely influences me simultaneously. - You’re known for your humor and personality, but “ur a bitch” is more of a diss track. Was it liberating to release some pent-up frustration through your music?
Yeah, it definitely felt good, lol. - Your journey to musical stardom has been wild, from American Idol to The Voice. What has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned along the way?
Just do it. Post the video. Nobody gives a shit if you’re cringe, people just care about themselves. Everybody is cringe. - You’ve mentioned feeling like an outsider growing up. How does Nigerian heritage play a role in your music and identity as an artist?
I grew up in a predominantly white neighborhood. I was constantly made fun of for how tall & dark I was & how nappy my hair was. For all my distinctly Nigerian features. Growing up, I’ve always felt most proud of who I was when surrounded by my Nigerian friends. Nigerians are so proud, especially when we are together. - The music industry can be tough, especially for women. How do you stay true to yourself and your sound while navigating it all?
Social media has become the best tool in the world for me because I don’t have to answer anyone. I just need to post every day. My socials have gotten me into rooms that my music alone would probably not have gotten me into. - “ur a bitch” is sure to make waves. How do you plan to follow it up and keep your fans dancing and singing along?
Thanks, my EP is super fun. I know people are going to love it.
