When the ‘80s Make a Comeback
Turns out that over the top ‘80s fashion trends like, ruffles, sheer tights, and ankle socks, are more fashionable than you previously thought. Check out how these 7 styles from the decade are making a modern comeback.
1. Denim Patchwork

Patchwork denim rose in popularity in the ‘70s and continued to be a major trend over the following decade due to it’s major Americana aesthetic. Above see a patchwork denim button down with matching skirt from Valerie Aflalos’ spring summer 2018 runway.
2. Ankle Socks

Looking back to the ‘80s we are overtaking by Ankle socks worn with heels or sneakers, the slouchier, the better. It seems showing your sock is making a fashionable return rom street-style stars pairing them with designer pumps, seen here during Paris Fashion Week, to off-duty models wearing them with their dad shoes.
3. Leg Warmers

You might immediately think of Flashdance when you hear the term “leg-warmers,” but this style goes beyond the ’80s hit that helped popularize it. In the beginning of the year, these leg-warmers hit the runway during Chanel Métiers d’Art Fashion Show 2018, proving that they’re not just for dance class.
4. Mesh

No matter where you turned, you could easily could find people rocking mesh tops while layering bras and shirts under mesh fabric, and the same holds true today. At Coachella, Victoria’s Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio wears a black mesh crop top over a white bralette with black high-waist cutoffs.
5. Sequins

If there is anything that screams ‘80s it defiantly figure skaters wearing sequins outfits. Now, the trend looks a little more polished. Take, for instance, this iridescent sequin midi shown at Barcelona Bridal Week in April.
6. Neon

Have you seen a Richard Simmons ’80s workout video? Well, either way, fitness gurus from that period definitely made the case for neon colors with their bright sweatbands, leotards, and leg-warmers. Honestly, any ‘80s theme party all neon. The Kardashian-Jenners have been wearing the blinding hues A LOT as of late, such as this neon-orange mini dress Kendall wore in June to a LOVE magazine party.
7. Sheer Tights

Black sheer tights were a red carpet staple seen on actresses from Sarah Jessica Parker to Vanessa Williams, and three decades later, the trend is popping back up. At Libertine’s runway show in February, a model sports transparent black tights (albeit with some embroidery), paired with a skirt and jacket.
